Choose a reading grade
Choose the text that fits the reader
Grade labels are a starting point for browsing. Open a passage preview and consider the vocabulary, length, and topic before deciding whether it fits your reader today. A student can benefit from exploring a different grade collection when a text feels too easy or too frustrating.
The first-grade collection includes separately labeled tracks where available. Keep the track label in mind when comparing passages with similar titles.
Use a passage for practice or a reading check-in
For practice, choose a short section to reread and discuss. For a timed first reading, keep instructions consistent and note whether the reader has seen the text before. Rate, accuracy, and understanding answer different questions about a reading.
