Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in Ohio. He was the youngest of seven children. He is one of America’s most famous inventors, with 1,093 registered patents in his name. A patent proves who invented and owns an invention.

At a young age, he was very ill with scarlet fever, which along with repeated ear infections, caused him to lose much of his hearing. His hearing loss made learning in school difficult. Edison didn't pay attention in school, and his teacher said he was a slow learner. His mother took him out of school and taught him at home. She taught him to read.
