The Internet
The internet keeps us in touch with each other. It puts information at our fingertips. We use it on computers, tablets, and phones. Most of us take it for granted. But many people worked for a long time to invent the internet.
In 1962, a computer scientist named J.C.R. Licklider had an idea. He called it the Galactic Network . He thought there was a way to connect lots of computers together, so they could “talk” to each other. The first long-distance email was sent in 1965. Using a slow-speed telephone line, a scientist in Massachusetts sent a message from his computer to a computer in California.
