Sign Language
For centuries, it was assumed that deaf people had nothing to say. Fortunately, there are now excellent ways for the deaf to talk to each other and to hearing people.
Sign language is any kind of “speaking” that uses gestures instead of sound. The first known sign language was not for deaf people. It was used by monks who had taken a vow of silence. They spoke to each other with simple hand gestures.
