Marathon Meb

Mebrahtom Keflezighi, often called "Meb," has an amazing story. He was born in 1975, in a country called Eritrea, which is in the part of Africa next to the Red Sea.

Meb has a big family — he's one of ten kids! When he was little, his house didn't have electricity, running water, or even indoor bathrooms. This was a difficult and scary time because his country of Eritrea was at war. Eritrea wanted to be an independent country instead of being ruled by Ethiopia.
