Elizabeth Blackwell
Elizabeth Blackwell was born in 1821 in England. This was a time when people didn’t think girls could do as much as boys. Girls were not expected to do much beyond sewing and housekeeping. Many women did not go to college at all. Her father did not agree. He thought she could do anything she wanted.
Elizabeth worked hard. She was homeschooled. She had a tutor. When Elizabeth was 11 her family moved to New York. Then, when she was 17 they moved to Ohio. She kept reading all the books she could.
