Amphibians
Amphibians are a special type of animal. The word “amphibian” means two lives, one in the water and one on land. All amphibians begin their life in water. They breathe with gills and have tails to swim with. As they grow, they develop lungs and legs for their lives on land.
There are more than 4,000 different kinds of amphibians. Frogs, toads, and salamanders are amphibians.
