Amelia Earhart

When Amelia Earhart was 23 years old, a friend took her for a ride in his airplane. The feeling of lifting off the ground took her breath away. Earhart knew she had to devote her life to flying. The year was 1920. Airplanes were still a new technology. Most pilots were men.

That didn’t stop Earhart. Growing up in Kansas, she had always been interested in things that society at the time thought only boys should do. She climbed trees and explored. Bugs and frogs fascinated her.
