History of Skiing

Alpine skiing is a popular outdoor pastime anywhere in the world there is snow. Skiers love the thrill of speeding down snowy slopes. However, skiing hasn’t always just been about having fun or winning races. Originally, skis were invented as a way to get from one place to another in snowy regions.

Archeologists in Russia uncovered a ski that's over eight thousand years old! This ancient ski was not like the sleek skis we see today. It was short and had a cool design, with a pointed tip at the front and an elk head carved on the back, probably used as a brake.
