Transactional SMS disclosure

Parent/Teacher Checkpoint Text Program

Fluent Within, operated by Scholar Within, Inc. uses this optional transactional text program to deliver a secure Parent/Teacher Checkpoint notice and code, consent receipts, follow-up confirmations, and related service information for a child's reading assessment. This program does not send marketing or promotional texts.

How text-message opt-in works
  1. An adult creates or signs in to a Fluent Within account and chooses to take a reading assessment for a child.
  2. After selecting the parent or legal-guardian path and completing the adult birth-year checkpoint, the adult chooses Text message for the free Parent/Teacher Checkpoint.
  3. The adult enters the mobile number where the parent or legal guardian should receive the checkpoint, checks the unchecked SMS-consent box, and selects Schedule Checkpoint by Text. Only the subscriber or customary user of that mobile number may check the box and submit the request.
  4. The recipient opens the secure link or enters the six-digit code in the requesting browser, reviews the complete child reading-data notice on Fluent Within, and selects I Agree on the website. Receiving a text or entering a code alone does not grant parental consent.
This public page does not collect a phone number. Mobile numbers can be entered only inside the signed-in assessment flow.

Teachers and educators must not enter or enroll someone else's mobile number. The product label "Parent/Teacher Checkpoint" does not give a teacher permission to opt a parent or any other person in to text messages. Only a child's parent or legal guardian may provide parent-directed child-data consent; educators acting under school authority use Fluent Within's separate school-authorized path.

SMS disclosure presented at opt-in

Program: Fluent Within Parent/Teacher Checkpoint. SMS opt-in is separate from parental consent to collect or process child data. Read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Timing and message frequency

The initial Parent/Teacher Checkpoint is scheduled after the request and should arrive within 24-48 hours. Its secure link and code expire at the time shown in the message.

For one completed text-based request, expect one initial checkpoint message. If the parent or legal guardian agrees on the website, Fluent Within then sends an immediate consent receipt containing the accepted notice and another confirmatory follow-up about 24-48 hours later. Because the receipt and follow-up contain the complete notice, each is sent as multiple numbered text messages. The exact number of messages and carrier SMS segments varies with notice length, carrier handling, and any delivery retry. Starting a new checkpoint request generates a new set of service messages.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Delivery timing can vary by carrier and is not guaranteed. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

STOP, HELP, and your choices

Reply STOP to stop future texts from this program to that number. We will confirm the opt-out, and no further messages will be sent unless the subscriber opts in again. Messages already in transit may still arrive, and stopping texts may prevent completion of text-based verification. If the message came from a toll-free number, text START or UNSTOP to that number before requesting texts again. Reply HELP for help, email hello@scholarwithin.com, or call 530-823-2085.

Stopping texts does not by itself revoke parental consent already recorded or delete a child's information. A parent or legal guardian can revoke consent, stop future collection, or request deletion through the parent account's Data area or by emailing the support address above.

Consent to receive Parent/Teacher Checkpoint texts is not a condition of purchasing any product or using Fluent Within. The adult may choose the free account-email checkpoint instead. Choosing this transactional text program does not subscribe the number to promotional or marketing messages.

Read the complete Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Sample messages

These representative messages are generated from the same templates used by the service. A live message contains a unique expiring link and code, the actual agreement time, and the current accepted notice. The fixed values below are non-working examples.

Reading-data notice accepted (version 2026-07-30-v7):

Your Child’s Reading Data

Fluent Within uses automated speech technology to analyze your child reading aloud and calculate reading speed and accuracy. The recording is securely processed and saved so you and educators you authorize can review the assessment, and you may delete it at any time. Recordings are not routinely listened to by our staff. A limited number of authorized personnel may access a recording only when necessary to provide requested support, investigate a technical or security issue, or comply with the law.

We collect and process:
- Your child’s name or nickname, age, current grade, and reading level
- Audio of your child reading
- Reading speed, accuracy, pronunciation, and identified errors
- Basic device and assessment-session information

Identifiable child data is kept for 24 months by default. The account holder may choose 24, 36, 48, or 60 months. The account retention clock restarts when the account completes a new account-owned assessment or has a qualifying Fluent Within or Scholar Within membership, program, or subscription activation or renewal. Saved recordings also age individually from their recording date under the selected period. Shortening the period may schedule older recordings for deletion; extending it cannot restore data already deleted. When the broader account period expires, the child profile, assessment results, recordings, and other associated identifiable data become eligible for scheduled deletion unless an active school or organization retention scope applies. School and organization retention periods and renewal clocks are controlled by the applicable contract or DPA.

We do not sell your child’s information or use it for advertising. For internal research and service improvement, Fluent Within may use a restricted pseudonymous dataset that preserves exact assessment measurements: assessment quarter and test length; parent- or school-authorized context; grade, reading, and spelling levels; words per minute (WPM), accuracy, duration, word and error counts; and pronunciation, fluency, completeness, and prosody scores. A stable, randomly generated research identifier may connect assessments from the same student so we can analyze individual progress over time, repeat assessments, and distinct-student counts without giving researchers the student's identity. The protected crosswalk that connects this identifier to the student and account, and to organization-governance information when applicable, is stored separately and is not available to researchers. The researcher-accessible metrics exclude audio, transcripts, recognized text, names, contact information, direct child, account, school, and source-assessment identifiers, device identifiers, IP addresses, exact timestamps, and passage text. We do not describe this internal row-level dataset as anonymous or fully deidentified, sell it, or use it for advertising, and we do not release it outside Fluent Within. We may periodically or manually create aggregate research snapshots. Any release

outside Fluent Within, including to a research partner or the public, is limited to deidentified aggregate results reviewed so they will not identify a child, account, household, school, or organization. Research rows from parent-directed assessments do not include an organization mapping. The parent account holder may opt out at any time. Opting out stops future inclusion and uses the protected crosswalk to delete the account's current pseudonymous research rows. Because an aggregate snapshot contains no account or research-subject mapping, an account's contribution cannot be selectively identified or removed from a snapshot already produced. If contribution is later re-enabled, otherwise eligible assessments still retained by the service may be included again.

You may review or delete your child’s information and end their participation with Fluent Within at any time.

The email address or mobile number selected for this checkpoint is used to request and confirm parental consent and send related service messages. With free email or text verification, the Parent/Teacher Checkpoint and direct reading-data notice are delivered within 24-48 hours after the request. We do not collect the child's assessment data unless you agree. After you open the secure link or enter the code and select I Agree on this website, we immediately send a receipt confirming acceptance, and assessment access unlocks once the delivery provider accepts that receipt. Within another 24-48 hours, we send an additional confirmatory follow-up with revocation instructions and an overview of Fluent Within; that follow-up does not delay access. If you do not agree before the link and code expire, we schedule the parent contact information and unapproved request for deletion as soon as the link and code expire; they are normally deleted within 24 hours.

By continuing, you confirm that you are this child’s parent or legal guardian and consent to the collection, storage, automated processing, and internal research use described above. Current, unrevoked consent attached to the same signed-in child profile may cover later eligible assessments while this notice version remains current. A material notice change or revocation requires new consent.
