AI Reading Coach: Your Students’ Reading Data

Fluent Within’s AI Reading Coach uses automated speech technology to analyze a student reading aloud and provide reading feedback, including reading speed, accuracy, and pronunciation results.

The audio is securely processed and saved by default so you can review the student’s reading. Contracted service providers may process the audio only to operate Fluent Within under our instructions. Recordings are not routinely listened to by our staff. A limited number of authorized personnel may access a recording only when necessary to provide requested support, investigate a technical or security issue, or comply with the law.

Identifiable student data is kept for 24 months by default. You may choose a retention period of up to five years in your account settings. The applicable account retention clock may restart after a qualifying membership, program, or subscription activation or renewal, and saved recordings also age from their individual recording dates. You may delete recordings or other student information sooner. Details are provided in the Privacy Policy.

For internal research and service improvement, Fluent Within may preserve exact assessment measurements in a restricted pseudonymous dataset, including grade, reading and spelling levels, words per minute, accuracy, error counts, and pronunciation measures. A stable, randomly generated research identifier may connect assessments from the same student for longitudinal progress, repeat-assessment, and distinct-student analysis. The protected crosswalk that connects the identifier to the student, account, and applicable organization governance is stored separately and is unavailable to researchers, while allowing authorized opt-out and deletion. Researcher-accessible metrics exclude audio, recognized text, names, contact information, direct student, account, school, and source-assessment identifiers, device identifiers, IP addresses, exact timestamps, and passage text. We do not describe or release the internal row-level dataset as anonymous or fully deidentified. Any external research release is limited to reviewed, deidentified aggregate results.

We do not sell student information or use it for advertising.

Your agreement applies automatically at the account level to every current student profile and every student profile later added to this Scholar Within account while this notice version remains current. Add or enable a student only when you are the parent or legal guardian for that student. A material change to this notice requires a new agreement.

This AI Reading Coach activation does not authorize public or anonymous sharing and does not establish separate verification for a share link. Sharing remains disabled unless the account separately meets Fluent Within’s sharing requirements and you choose to create a link.

AI Reading Coach is optional to use. You may ask us to place an account-wide AI speech coaching block at any time by contacting hello@scholarwithin.com. While the block is active, Fluent Within will not enable microphone recording for AI Reading Coach, record new reading audio, or send audio for AI speech analysis for any student on the account. The block does not cancel your Scholar Within account or program; it preserves this authorization and does not itself delete information already collected. If you later ask us to re-enable AI speech coaching, use resumes under this authorization while it remains current. A new authorization is required only after you separately revoke it or this notice materially changes. You may separately review or request deletion of student information, revoke this authorization, and end participation in AI Reading Coach from the Data area of the parent portal or by contacting hello@scholarwithin.com. Revocation stops future collection and requires a new current authorization before future AI Reading Coach use; it does not undo processing that was lawful before revocation.

By continuing, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and are the parent or legal guardian for every student currently on this Scholar Within account, and will add or enable only future students for whom you are the parent or legal guardian. You agree to the AI Reading Coach Terms and consent to the collection, storage, automated processing, and restricted pseudonymous internal research use described in this notice.
